LAHORE - President Pakistan Muslim League-N Shahbaz Sharif has warned President Asif Ali Zardari against facing public wrath if he does not mend his ways saying he (Shahbaz) and Nawaz Sharif would take part in long march that would wipe Zardari out. He was addressing the joint session of the Lahore Bar Association (LBA) and the Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) held here at the District Court on Thursday. He said, "The people of the country have lost trust in Zardari as he had backed out of his promises not once, but thrice in a row". "I have great respect for Asfand Yar Wali, Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman and Nawab Aslam Raisani who have been making efforts for reconciliation." But, he asked, who would guarantee that Zardari would not break his promises anymore." He exhorted Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani to step forward and play his due role to save the democracy because "Zardari has become untrustworthy." "He made promises only to grab powers and perpetuate his regime. And after achieving that 'goal' he threw them (promises) in dustbin," Shahbaz alleged. "If he does not mend his way the people will throw him in the dustbin," the N-League President said while warning President Zardari. He urged the President to restore the sacked judges and Punjab government to its February 25 position while abolishing the 17th amendment, adding that he (Zardari) could seek apology from the nation for his wrongdoings in this way. Shahbaz came hard on Zardari saying that the long march would flow away Zardari along with his political jugglery. "Had I been seeking personal gains I would have accepted Zardari's offers to save my government but I did not do so because it would derail the country and put it on the path of lawlessness and tyranny", he continued. "I can lay my life for this country but cannot sell my conscience", he said. He appealed the masses and the legal fraternity to make preparations for the long march that would continue till restoration of the deposed judges. "I and Nawaz are standing shoulder to shoulder with lawyers and will participate in the march along with tens of thousands of people. This flood of people will take deposed Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and his colleagues to the Supreme Court," and no one would dare to stop them. "And if some one tried to do it the people would break his hands," said Shahbaz who was looking in no mood of reconciliation. The PML-N President said the party had never promised on the national integrity but Zardari always earned bad names for the country by bowing before foreign forces. He made it clear that he and his party would serve all energies to save the country. He said if the rule of law and free judiciary were not established, the country would fail to progress. Shahbaz was given thunderous reception on his arrival as the lawyers showered rose petals and shouted slogans in favour of him. Political workers of the PML-N, ANP and Jamaat -e-Islami were also present. Despite the fact that Shahbaz targeted Zardari during his whole speech he stopped lawyers from raising indecent slogans against Zardari. "I will quit the venue if the indecent slogans are not stopped", he said. The lawyers accepted his request and went silent.
