LAHORE:Police gunned down two alleged bandits in a shootout staged in the Shalimar police area on Thursday.
Sources revealed the police killed both the robbers in fake encounter as they were in the police custody for the last couple of weeks. The police claimed the bandits, identified as Kashif alias Kashi, and Faisal, were criminals and wanted to the police in several cases.
According to the police, a police team signaled three suspected motorcyclists to stop at the GT Road for routine checking. The motorcyclists opened straight fire on the policemen, triggering an armed encounter. When the fire was stopped, two of gunmen were found shot dead while their third accomplice managed to escape from the crime scene. Interestingly, all the policemen deployed at the point remained unhurt during the crossfire. The police removed the bodies to the morgue for autopsy.
The police sources said they had arrested both the robbers some 14 days ago. The police kept them at a private torture cell and interrogated the bandits in connection with armed robberies. After getting green-signal from the police hierarchy, the cops staged the encounter and killed the bandits. Further investigation is underway.–Staff Reporter
