LAHORE - The war of September 1965 is the glorious chapter of history of Pakistan, Shahbaz Sharif said in his message on Defence Day.
Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that the month of September has a great significance in the history of Pakistan when the Pak army gave a befitting response to the enemy on its aggression.
“The Pak army wrote interminable stories of bravery and valour in defence of the country. For the survival and stability of the country, it is once again writing a new history of gallantry in the war against terrorism,” the CM said on Saturday.
Shahbaz Sharif said: “Soldiers of Pak army imbued with the spirit to defend the motherland foiled nefarious designs of the enemy in the 1965 war.
“Our soldiers set such magnificent examples of valour and bravery on every front of war as will be remembered forever.
“The army with entire nation proved as a rock wall against the enemy and gave a befitting response with full force to the Indian aggression.
“The nation needs the same national unity and spirit today which was earlier proved practically during the war.”
On this day, over 180 million people of Pakistan pay homage to the everlasting sacrifices of these brave sons, Shahbaz Sharif said.
“Let us pledge on this day that as a nation we will also defeat internal and external threats through unity like we had defeated the enemy on every front in 1965,” he said in his D-Day message.
He added that the military operation Zarb-e-Azb has yielded positive results against the terrorism.
The CM expressed the hope that the country would be purged of the scourge of terrorism with the unity of the nation and Pakistan will be made a haven of peace.
Acting governor calls for unity: Punjab acting governor Rana Muhammad Iqbal Khan has congratulated the nation and armed forces on the Defence Day.
In his D-Day message on Saturday, the acting governor said the account of gallantry of September 6 still echoes in history.
“September 6 is a day which goes into history for the unity of the armed forces and the people through which they routed the enemy and defended the motherland displaying unprecedented spirit and bravery.
“Our soldiers, in that 17 days long war against India, showed the world how to lay down lives for the defence of the motherland.”
He said the country needs the same enthusiasm in present times when the enemies have challenged our sovereignty and security.
“No one can cause any harm to the motherland if we follow the motto of faith, unity and discipline as propounded by the founding father of the nation, Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
“Let’s renew our pledge on this day to spare no sacrifice in defence of the country as well as to thwart nefarious designs of the enemy.”
