Almost half of the city went without electricity for four hours on Thursday, as a grid station on Band Road (220KV) remained shut while another 119 feeders tripped due to scattered showers in Lahore.
The gusty winds worsened the power situation in the city and its adjoining areas already facing around 6-8 hours of loadshedding. There were reports of faults in underground cables and high transmission lines.
The areas which suffered power breakdowns include Gulshan-e-Ravi, Shahadra, Yatim Khana, Band Road, Badami Bagh, Samanabad, Sabzazar and Multan Road.
The tripping of over 119 feeders continued in the area of Iqbal Town, Mozang, Ichhra, Shadman, Gulberg, Akbari Gate, Harbanspura, College Road, Model Town, Babu Sabu and Bakra Mandi.
According to the Energy Management Cell (EMC), Pakistan’s current power demand is 17,900 MW compared to total generation of 14,400 MW.
People in urban and rural areas have been facing outages and low voltage for many days. “There is no schedule as Lesco observes loadshedding for a couple of hours together and sometimes every alternate hour. There was no light in Thokar Niaz Baig all the day on Thursday,” a resident, Mehmood said.
On Thursday, total power generation was standing at about 9,200MW, including hydal generation of 3,000MW, thermal generation of 1,400MW and IPPs generation of 4,800MW.
The country’s overall shortfall recorded at 2,000MW due to demand of 11,200MW, official sources said.
