LAHORE - Parts of the country including Lahore received rainfall of varying intensities on Monday with experts predicting the wet spell to continue during the next couple of days.
Cloudiness, high velocity winds and rains caused considerable decrease in the mercury level, providing much needed respite to the people from the prevailing muggy weather. The rains disturbed normal routine life as rainwater inundated on portions of roads and roadsides in urban areas including the city.
After scattered showers in the afternoon, Lahore received heavy rains during the night that submerged roads and streets not only in northern side but also in posh localities in knee deep rainwater.
Cloud cover, windstorm and rains at noon and during the night caused decrease in the mercury level, providing relief to the heat stricken people. Maximum and minimum temperature in Lahore was recorded 35 degree Celsius and 25C respectively. Relative humidity in the evening was recorded 67 percent. The rains added to the woes of motorists and pedestrians as the rainwater inundated on portions of roads and roadsides. Frequent traffic jams were witnessed due to inundated rainwater and slippery conditions.
Several incidents of skidding of motorcycles were also reported from various parts of the city.
According to the experts, seasonal low lies over north Balochistan with its trough extending southeastwards. Monsoon currents are penetrating into central and upper parts of the country and expected to strengthen from tonight and likely to continue during next few days.
Local meteorological department has forecast cloudy weather with chances of rains for Lahore during the next couple of days. Widespread rain-thundershower is expected in Lahore, Gujranwala, Rawalpindi, Hazara divisions, Islamabad and Kashmir. Scattered heavy falls are expected in Gujranwala, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Kasur and Okara districts.
Rain-thundershower is expected at scattered places in Sargodha, Sahiwal, Malakand, Peshawar, Kohat, Mardan divisions, FATA and at isolated places in Faisalabad, Multan, DG Khan, DI Khan, Zhob divisions and Gilgit-Baltistan. Heavy falls may generate urban flooding in Lahore, Gujranwala and Sialkot.
