Students permitted to appear in exams

LAHORE - The Lahore High Court has directed the controller examination Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Lahore, to issue roll number slips to 88 students of GCU who were earlier bared from sitting in examination due to short attendance in the classes. Justice Sheikh Ahmed Farooq allowing the petition of the students ordered that provisional role number slips be issued for the students so that they may appear in the examination and save their academic year. However, the outcome of the exam will be conditional to the final judgment of the court on students petition. The petition was filed by Abdullah Saeed and 87 other GCU students of FA/FSc, challenging the GCU authorities order of not sending their exam forms for intermediate exams starting from May 8. The controller examination BISE Lahore and the GCU registrar appeared before the court on Thursday and stated rules of the GCU and BISE did not allow sending admission of the students due to shortage of attendance in classes. Later, the GCU registrar threw the ball in the court of the BISE controller saying GCU would have no objection if the BISE relaxed its rules and permitted the student to sit in the examination. Petitioners counsel pleaded the GCU authorities did not forward the petitioners examination forms to BISE on the grounds that their attendance was less than 75 per cent. He stated the petitioners admission forms should have been submitted in Dec 2009 but the university authorities did not disclose the information to the students at that time. Now, one week prior to the start of the exams, the students approached the university authorities for their roll number slips, but they were instead given letters regarding shortage of their attendance.
