LAHORE -
Senior journalist Abbas Ather passed away after prolong illness on Monday. He was suffering from cancer ailment from a long time and hospitalised in CMH for the treatment. He left behind two wives, three daughters and two sons.
Late Abbas was country’s prominent progressive columnist and used to write his columns under title of ‘Kankrian’. He was also a respected critic and current affairs analyst on a private TV channel.
Journalist community will remember Abbas Ather for his services as a senior journalist and editor. He was known for his principled oppositions to military dictators. He authored a famous PPP’s song “Bhutto di beti aai si” as a tribute to slain prime minister Benazir Bhutto.

Prime Minister Mir Hazar Khan Khoso, PML-N President Nawaz Sharif, Chief Minister Najam Sethi, Punjab Governor Syed Makhdoom Ahmad Mahmood, former chief minister Shahbaz Sharif expressed their profound grief and sorrow over sad demise of Abbas Ather. In their messages they paid tributes to the services of Abbas Ather and said that had introduced new trends in the journalism.
They prayed Allah Almighty may rest the departed soul in eternal peace and grant courage and strength to the members of the bereaved family to bear the irreparable loss with fortitude.
