LAHORE - Martyrdom Day of Hazrat Umar Farooq (RA), second Caliph of Islam, was observed across the country on Wednesday with religious sanctity.
Several public meetings, seminars and sittings threw light on the life of Hazrat Umer Farooq (RA), while the Ahle Sunnah Wal Jamat (ASWJ) also held demonstrations for not declaring a national holiday on the Martyrdom Day of Hazrat Umer Farooq (RA).
In Lahore, the ASWJ organised a seminar at Lahore Press Club, which was addressed by ASWJ chief Allama Muhammad Ahmed Ludhianvi through telephone.
Speaking on this occasion, Allama Ludhianvi said that Pakistan came into existence in the name of Islam, however instead of observing Days of Khulfa-e-Rashideen, labour, democracy and many other days like this observed in the country.
He said that the unwise policies of the rulers have put the country into a situation of civil war and the time has come that the rulers should tell the truth to the masses.
He demanded of the government for bounding a sect to observe the Muharram inside the worship places and not let anyone to hold public rallies for ensuring peace and security during Muharram.
Other speakers said that establishing Khilafat-e-Rashida was the only solution to steer the country out of the existing crises.
They thanked the Khyber Pukhtunkhawa government for declaring public holiday on the Martyrdom Day of Hazrat Umer Farooq (RA) and demanded the government to follow the suit.
Others who attended the seminar were Maulana Abdul Rauf Farooqi, Maulana Shamasur Rehman Mauwia, Maulana Amjad Khan, Maulana Zubair Ahmed Zaheer, Pir Saif Ullah Khalid and Maulana Abdul Latif Cheema.
Later, they also held a demonstration outside the Lahore Press Club for not announcing a public holiday on the Martyrdom Day of Hazrat Umer Farooq (RA).
