LAHORE - A five-year-old boy was brutally attacked by a stray dog in the Rajput Town yesterday.
The victim, identified as Ahad Asif, was rushed to the Jinnah Hospital on a private vehicle. According to hospital sources, the boy sustained serious injuries on his face and head. “The boy was bleeding profusely when he was rushed to the emergency ward,” an official said. Jinnah hospital’s doctors later referred the boy to another hospital for dog-bite treatment.
It was learnt that some children were playing cricket in a street in Rajput Town located near EME society on the canal road when their ball hit a stray dog. “The dog immediately attacked one of the children as others started hue and cry,” an eyewitness told The Nation.
The dog fled away as some men rushed towards the boy to save him. “Had the men (who responded to children’s hue and cry) not intervened quickly, the dog might have killed the kid,” a resident said.
The incident, which took place shortly before sun set, triggered panic in the posh residential neighbourhood. The area police said that the incident was not in their notice.
According to locals, dozens of stray dogs roam on the streets in the housing colonies located on the canal road. They frequently attack passersby and motorists particularly during the night hours. The city district government is yet to launch any campaign to protect local communities from the mushroom growth of stray dogs. Dog biting incidents often take place in Johar Town, Faisal Town, and Iqbal Town.
