Court doesn’t buy Shahid Nazir’s ‘cheap’ fish

LAHORE - Banking Court Judge Muhammad Khalid Nawaz on Friday issued arrest warrants for Shahid Nazir, known for his song ‘One pound fish’, in a fraud case.
The judge also directed police to produce him on the next hearing fixed as September 29. Earlier, the court issued notices to him, but neither he himself nor through his counsel submitted reply to the court.
A local leasing company moved the banking court, saying that Shahid Nazir borrowed Rs6.6 million. They said he signed an agreement to submit all sum through installments but after some installments he ran away.
The petitioner told the court that they served him notices but he did not bother to reply which finally led them to file a suit against him. The petitioner said further that Shahid Nazir was a defaulter as he violated the agreement he signed. They requested the court to take notice of the fraud. Finally, on Friday, the petitioner again pleaded the court for his arrest, upon which the court issued his arrest warrants and directed police to produce on next date of hearing fixed as Sep 29.
IT crime case
Additional District and Sessions Judge Shiekh Sajjad Ahmad on Friday refused to hear a bail application filed by five accused of committing heinous crimes through Facebook. A five-man gang moved the court for bail after they were booked for kidnapping for ransom, blackmailing and torture using social media.
Expressing dismay over the unprecedented delay, Shiekh Sajjad Ahmad, the ASJ, observed: “On every date of hearing, a new power of attorney is filed in the court that did not allow him to decide a bail petition for last two months.”
Additional District and Sessions Judge Sheikh Sajjad observed that the judicial system had reached at the verge of collapsing due to lethargic attitude of people. He, through a reference, sent the case to District and Sessions Judge Hamid Hussain Shah and refused to hear the case.  Earlier, the judge heard that the accused have been changing their counsel on every date to linger on the proceedings.
