Tribunal seeks data over poll rigging plea

LAHORE - An election tribunal has directed the election commission to collect all relevant record of vote recounting in NA-125 and present it to prove its transparency on an application challenging the process of recounting filed by federal minister for Railways Khawaja Saad Rafiq.
Appearing before the judge, the counsel for petitioner said that transparency was not being ensured during the recounting of votes in NA-125. He pointed out that the process of recounting is ambiguous which is causing doubts on its transparency.
He said the returning officer should have asked his subordinates for the total record but he asked them for few bags and then again for few bags again. The counsel contended that if he had demanded all record at the same time, the recounting would have been different.
The tribunal accepted his plea and issued directives to the returning officer concerned to collect all relevant record and present it before the court to ensure its transparency.
