LAHORE - Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf is all set to stage countrywide protests over the issue of transparent inquiry into the assets of Sharif Family following the Panama Papers leak about off shore companies made for the purpose of evading tax.
“PTI rejects a hand-picked commission to probe into Panama Papers disclosures which will eventually provide a clean chit to the corrupt ruling elite,” Chaudhary Muhammad Sarwar said yesterday.
After an intra-party polls meeting, the PTI leader said that workers were ready to launch protests and could also opt for agitation over the issue of transparent inquiry into the businesses of Sharif Family. Demanding fair probe into the revelations by Panama Papers, Sarwar said it was the prerogative of the party chairman to give a call.
“The commission should be headed by a serving judge of Supreme Court for independent and transparent investigation into the leaks,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Pakistan Awami Tehreek wrote letters to Chief Justice of Pakistan, Chief of Army Staff and Chairman National Accountability Bureau demanding investigation into alleged 49 percent shares of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in a steel mill in New Zealand.
The letter demands the formation of a judicial commission to be headed by the CJP for investigating the matter.
In the letter written by PAT secretary general Khurram Nawaz Gandapur, it has been claimed that the information regarding Ittefaq Foundry was revealed to PAT chairman Dr Tahirul Qadri by former New Zealand prime minister David Longe at a dinner. “Dr Tahirul Qadri is ready to record his statement to remove the doubts, if there is any. The official record of the New Zealand government can verify PAT’s statement,” Mr Gandapur told the media yesterday.
He also demanded that the CJP should take a suo moto and order the NAB to probe the issue.
