44m drink contaminated water

LAHORE Senior Advisor to Chief Minister Sardar Zulfiqar Ali Khan Khosa has said the Punjab Drinking Water Policy will be finalised after the consulting public representatives so that this policy can be formulated in accordance with ground realities. He expressed these views while addressing a meeting of MPAs to review the proposed the Policy. He mentioned that access to safe drinking water was one of fundamental rights of every citizen and the Policy aimed to provide a guiding framework in this regard. He further stated target had been set for attainment of the millennium development goals for improved water supply coverage in Punjab, and under this programme 80 per cent urban population and 64.65 per cent rural population would be provided safe drinking water facility. Zulfiqar Khosa observed that after the passage of the 18th amendment, the Environment Department had been devolved to the provinces. Earlier, a high level meeting was also held under Khosas chairmanship, which approved the amendments in acts regarding devolved departments.
