LAHORE – Condemning the Gujranwala attack, the Young Doctors Association has alleged that the government was using the incident to put the issue of service structure on backburner.
Addressing a press conference at the Allama Iqbal Medical College on Monday, YDA Punjab office bearers Dr Nasir Raza Bokhari, Dr Amer Bandesha, Dr Abubakar Gondal, Dr Adnan and Dr Shabbir Warraich said that the government was terminating and transferring young doctors even after they called off strike and resumed duties at hospitals. They said that the Jinnah Hospital MS has terminated 21 PG trainees and sent a list of 21 MOs to the Health Secretariat for further action. Giving the government January 10 deadline for acceptance of demands, they said that protest would be launched across the province if doctors were not given due rights. They announced a three member committee comprising Dr Javaid Aheer, Dr Amer Bandesha and Dr Shabbir to probe the Gujranwala incident. They said that the YDA cabinet would go to Gujranwala to seek apology from the MS if young doctors were found guilty. They said that division in YDA and opposition of senior doctors was merely government propaganda and the entire community was united. They appealed the government to carryout impartial and transparent probe of Gujranwala incident and exemplary punishment to culprits.
