Plea to defer Matric exam

LAHORE The Lahore High Court on Monday issued notices for March 9 to all Boards of Intermediate and Secondary Education in Punjab on an application which prayed to the court to defer the ongoing Matric examination, as the newly introduced system of multiple choice questions (MCQs) for 10th class exams, is contrary to the rules and irksome for the candidates for being not in line with their preparations. The application has been filed by Muhammad Azhar Siddique in his already pending main petition against the mandatory production of Nadra B-form with the admission form for Matric examination. During the course of hearing last day the court remarked that it well understood problems of the students as such it would not let future of the students come to any risk or their year go waste. The Court would do maximum to address the public problems. The petitioner-counsel submitted through his present application that all intermediate and secondary education boards of Punjab had changed the procedure of MCQs for Matric exams. He said students needed more time to understand the newly introduced pattern. He said administrations of all BISEs appear to have decided to create hurdles and make more difficult the examination and education system in the way of students to acquire education. The petitioner said firstly the administration introduced the provision of Form-B as compulsory for admissions. Later, they announced that students would receive admission forms through the internet which also added to the suffering of the students. Siddique submitted that the step also failed as students could not be able to submit online admission form in time. He pointed out that the majority of students could not get their roll number slips and had to visit board offices many times. He alleged that students were forced to grease the palm of officials to get their roll number slips. The petitioner, therefore, prayed to the court to order all BISEs to withdraw the newly introduced pattern of MCQs and also stay holding of the exams till a final decision on the petition.
