LHC imposes fine on sub-inspector, SHO

LAHORE - Justice Hafiz Tariq Nasim of the Lahore High Court on Friday imposed a fine of Rs10,000 on a sub-inspector and Rs50,000 on Station House Officer (SHO) Khanqa Dograna police station for keeping a father and his minor son in illegal detention. The court directed the sessions judge concerned to make recovery of fine from the delinquent police officials and provide it to the detenues.  The court also freed Nazir and his son Amir besides ordering to mention adverse remarks in the Annual Confidential Reports (ACRs) of SI Janhangir and SHO Muhammad Iqbal. The bailiff who was deputed to recover the detenues reported that the detenues Muhammad Nazir and his 12-year old son Amir were arrested on November 01 from their house. However, their arrest was not mentioned in police daily register. The bailiff also confirmed police torture on them. The bailiff said detenue Amir told him that the SI Jahangir had arrested him along with women from his house and when his father Nazir visited police station to meet him, the police detained him as well. However, the women were released. The bailiff also reported that Moharar of police station told him that an FIR was registered against Amir and he had been declared proclaimed offender in that case. But he could not produce record of his arrest. On Friday an ASI Sajjad Abbas appeared before the court and expressed ignorance about the arrest of the detenues. He, however, alleged that SI Jahangir had arrested them and kept at the police station. The court summoned the SI on short notice who appeared but denied the charges against him. The court relying upon the bailiff's report imposed fine of Rs 100,000 on SI Jahangir and Rs 50,000 on SHO Muhammad Iqbal. Cheque presented for quake-victims Aamir Ikraam, Sohaib Butt, Rashid Mahmood and Qaisar Butt of Pakistan Muslim League (N) who belong to Gujranwala called on Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif at Chief Minister's Secretariat here on Friday and presented him a cheque of Rs50,000 and blankets worth Rs0.8m for the quake-victims of Baluchistan. MPA Rana Muhammad Arshad, President PML-(N) Youth Wing Punjab Mian Ghulam Hussain Shahid and General Secretary Khalid Malik were also present on this occasion.
