Suo moto disposed of

LAHORE - Chief Justice Lahore High Court Khawaja Muhammad Sharif on Thursday disposed of a suo motu case against an incident in which two policemen of police station Tarkhani forced a man to stand barefooted on asphalt road that burn his feet. Zulfiqar Ahmed SP Faisalabad appeared before the Chief Justice on Thursday and submitted a report about the incident. The SP said police have registered FIR of the case but Muhammad Shakeel, the victim, has not yet joined the investigation. Upon this CJ directed Shakeel, who was present in the court, to accompany the SP to Faislabad to get his statement recorded. The CJ said that if the victim gives names of the culprits they should be taken into custody and then the law will take its course. With these instructions, the CJ disposed of the suo motu proceedings. The CJ had taken suo motu notice of the incident on a news item published in a local newspaper. According to the news, two police official snatched Rs 10,000 from Muhammad Shakeel during body search on a police picket. Shakeel demanded his money back from the police and he was tortured by keeping him standing barefooted on hot road for two hours. In two hours his feet started bleeding. Later, in a medical examination it was proved that his feet were burnt by standing barefooted on asphalt road. In suo moto notice the CJ had observed the application of inhuman and brute methods of torture and extortion of money despite increase in perks and privileges of police force speaks volumes of the claims of police high ups who claim refining the force.
