LAHORE (APP) - PPP leader Qasim Zia has said that PPP-led coalition government believes in supremacy of parliament and rule of law for promoting democracy and further strengthening democratic institutions. Talking to APP on Sunday, he said PPP had rendered great sacrifices for the cause of democracy and would not let anybody harming democracy, as it was essential for national unity and solidarity. He said PML-N leaders talk of supremacy of constitution and judiciary but on the other hand they are not ready to accept court decision regarding disqualification of Sharif brothers. He said after being disqualified by the apex court, Sharif brothers have opted to politics of agitation instead of adopting legal path for seeking relief. Strongly criticising them for inciting people to civil disobedience and agitation, he urged them to respond positively to PPP's efforts for reconciliation. Qasim Zia said PML-N's confrontational politics might damage democracy, which people of Pakistan would not allow at any cost. He urged PML-N leaders to rise above personal interests and think in term of national interests, saying that Sharif brothers want to achieve their negative objectives by destroying democracy and creating anarchy in the country through confrontation and agitation. He said the negative tactics adopted by Sharif brothers after the Supreme Court decision have proved that they could go to any extent for their personal interests. "Real political leaders never go for such practices as they give precedence to national interests over personal ones". He said PPP has always been pursuing better mutual understanding, compromise, national harmony and collective interests aimed at strengthening national solidarity and unity. On the contrary, he said, PML-N had resorted to violence for creating chaos and was trying to use masses for obtaining negative motives. He said there is no justification for the long march as the democratic government has already reinstated 53 deposed judges adding, "Linking independence of judiciary with a single personality is not appropriate". Strongly criticising diatribe against President Asif Ali Zardari, he said they should desist and maintained that PPP's policy of reconciliation should not be misconstrued as its weakness.
