LAHORE - The lawyers' weekly rally led by Javed Hashmi made it clear to the political parties that they would not accept PCO judges who had taken oath on November 3 warning them of tough opposition in case they retain the PCO judges. The lawyers have taken out two mammoth rallies - one from Aiwan-i-Adl by the Lahore Bar Association and the other from the Lahore High Court by the Lahore High Court Bar Association - that merged in front of the GPO (General Post Office) crossing. This might be lawyers' last rally because before next Thursday - the day fixed for weekly rally - the judges are likely to be reinstated as political parties are committed to resolve it till May 12. Those who participated in the rally were the workers of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf, Jamaat-i-Islami and Khaksar Tehreek, who were holding party flags, banners and placards inscribed with slogans against General(r) Pervez Musharraf. They also carried portraits of deposed Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry and other judges. After winding up the general house meeting, the lawyers inside the Karachi Shuhada Hall of the Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) gathered at the GPO crossing. Representative of the Judicial Activism Panel, Concerned Citizens of Pakistan and political workers also participated in the rally. PML-N workers were not present in great number despite the fact that their central leader was leading the rally. They started marching towards the Chairing Cross as soon as the protesters joined them from Aiwan-i-Adl. On their way, the traders greeted them through banners inscribed with slogans praising lawyers, and by showering rose petals. Upon reaching the Chairing cross, the protesters divided into groups and chanted slogans against General Musharraf (rd). 'Chief Terey Jan Nisar, Khaksar, Khaksar (Chief Justice your supporters are Khaksar), chanted the Khaksar Tehrik workers. During the rally the activists of political parties showed their aggression against President Pervez Musharraf and the ruling parties accusing them of aligning with Musharraf. They were chanting slogans "Musharraf Ka Jo Yar Hay, Ghaddar Hay, Ghaddar Hay" (friends of Musharraf are traitors). Hamid Khan said deposed judges would be restored with respect and honour, adding that neither lawyers had recognised PCO judges nor would they do it at any cost. He added the lawyers deferred their plan to hold a long march because they wanted to provide the Parliament time to restore the judges. But if the judges were not reinstated till May 12, they would have no option but to re-group themselves for a bigger struggle. After the speeches, the protesters dispersed peacefully and returned to their respective courts.
