LAHORE - In response to PML-N’s ongoing anti-government drive, the PPP has announced to launch a counter movement by holding public rallies across Punjab to show its muscles to its opponents. Senior PPP leaders including Imtiaz Safdar Warraich, Samina Khalid Ghurki and Haji Azizur Rehman Chan issued schedule of the proposed public meetings at a news conference here on Tuesday. Imtiaz Safdar told reporters that PPP’s movement would start with holding of lawyer’s convention in Lahore on May 10 (tomorrow). It would be followed by a motor bike rally on May 11 also in the City and a public rally the following day that would start from Tollington Market and culminate at Data Darbar. He said PPP’s General Council meeting would be held on May 16 and Prime Minister Gilani would chair it. A public meeting would be held in Rawalpindi on May 17 and a similar event would also be held in Kasur on May 19. The last week of May would witness rallies in Sialkot, Mandi Bahauddin, Bhakar, Khushab and Sargodha districts, he added. Accusing Nawaz Sharif of conspiring against democracy, Safdar said that he (Nawaz) never launched any long march against any dictator. He said the first NRO was signed by Nawaz Sharif with dictator Musharraf whereby he left for Jeddah and then to UK.
