Under the proposed rates, parking ticket of Rs 10 has been set as per hour and Rs 5 will be charged after each hour. For the whole day, Rs 50 will be charged. The authority has proposed Rs 200 ticket as parking fee for a week. Apart form this, Rs 20 has been set for local traders and shopkeepers for the whole day. In case of violation, Rs 500 will be charged. Approximately 90 per cent work regarding parking lanes for cars have been completed in Liberty while 10 per cent was expected to be completed on Wednesday. Under the parking map outlined by the authority concerned, roundabout 580 cars will be accommodated. Arrangements for motorcycle parking will be materialised after the finalisation of work for car parking Some 16 latest parking meters imported from France would be installed at different places in the city. After installation, the meters will redress the grievance of Lahorites regarding overcharging by the parking stand contractors. Each of the 16 ticketing equipment will cover 60 vehicles. People will find the machine at a distance of 30 meters, get a printed parking ticket from it after inserting a token that will be displayed at the front or rear screen or dashboard prominently. The ticket will be issued on hourly basis and traffic wardens will wheel-clamp the vehicle found parked more than the prescribed time and will impose fine too. A central control room will be set up at the DCO office in order to monitor the ticketing equipment. The CDGL would notify affordable parking rates soon after completion of the system installation. EDO (Community Development) Tanveer Khan told The Nation that parking rates had been drafted and opened for public debate so that they could be approved taking into consideration the recommendations to be sent from different quarters. He said that authority would hold personal hearing of the objections if any. The data would be sent to the city nazim who had authority to amend it or let it unchanged. Later these rates will be notified. He said the EDO (Works and Services) had also established its sub office in Liberty for the execution of technical work.
