'Sugar mills have made 98pc payments to growers'

LAHORE - Provincial Law Minister Rana Sanaullah Khan on Friday told the Punjab Assembly that sugar mills have so far paid 98.8 percent of the dues to cane growers. He elaborated that sugar mills had to pay a total of Rs 786.979 million to the growers, out of which Rs 770.085 million had been paid. While, the remaining amount would be recovered from the respective mills along with a fine proportion to amount these had to pay to the grower with in next ten days. Rana Sana said 21 sugar mills had made 100 percent payments regarding cane prices to the growers as well as their amount for sugar cess fund. While, 13 mills payments remained above 95 percent, of seven mills above 90 percent, of one mill above 80 percent and of three were below 80 percent, he added. It had been suggested that payment slip by the mills be made a negotiable instrument, he informed.
