Ticketless travelling on the rise in trains


LAHORE – Ticketless travelling has been contributing at least 10 to 20 per cent loss of Pakistan Railways each train’s existing revenue but no serious efforts are being made at the PR management end to control the menace.
There is common believe that majority of passengers who travels without tickets make this crime with the consent of train’s staff and railways police. Some officers of the department who spoke on the issue on condition of anonymity are of the view that police is the main facilitator of ticket-less travelling but the railways police claims that they are making full efforts to control ticket-less travelling in the trains.
“Special teams have been constituted on the directives of the Railways Police IG Syed Ibne Hussain who conduct raids in trains and impose heavy fine on passengers who travel without tickets,” said the PRP spokesman. According to him, the PRP has saved million of rupees of national exchequer by detecting ticket-less passengers.
In past week, he added, PRP conducted raids on different sections at main and branch routes and detected 1125 ticket-less passengers.
 by imposing fine of more than Rs0.67 million. According to details he provided, Police detected 249 passengers in Sukkur Division, 266 in Karachi Division more than 200 in Lahore Division, 188 in Multan Division and about 154 in Rawalpindi Division.
