MQM strives for max participation

LAHORE - String pullers of MQM Punjab chapter in a bid to express partys meaningful presence in the province, have carried out all efforts to bring a good number of people in its public moot to be held today (Sunday). High command of MQM to accomplish the target of showing maximum participation from Punjab, has made marathon visits to various districts of Punjab since last few weeks keeping in view the fact that 'April Moot will be vital for deciding MQMs political fate in Punjab. Some leaders of MQM hailing from Punjab requesting anonymity told this scribe on Saturday that partys high command had instructed the second-line leadership to take all measures to build a 'Punjabi image and face of the party in the April moot of 2011 at any cost. MQM leaders had taken out several rallies and small public meetings since last month till April 9, a day before partys public moot to muster public support for bringing the same to the moot, besides launching media frenzy through a series of press briefings and conferences to express its presence in Punjab. MQMs central leadership mostly hailing from urban centres of Sindh was also seen taking part in various inaugural functions of different fields during the past few weeks. Establishing MQM Punjab House was also among the major developments on part of the MQM that expressed its seriousness in establishing party in Punjab. MQM leadership expanding party operations across the Punjab, had also set up party offices in more than 2,000 union councils (UCs), while they had already set up party offices in all the districts of the province, besides setting up offices in most of the tehsils of Punjab. However, the political strategy and working of the MQM indicates that they were mainly focussing Southern Punjab and they had a working plan at hand to grab a sizeable support in order to make seat adjustments in the stated parts of the province, especially Bahawalpur and Multan in the next general elections. Meanwhile, MQMs central and Punjab chapter leadership had completed all arrangements to hold its public moot today. Punjab Home Department had conveyed to MQM leadership for making slight changes in the venue point due to security reasons. When contacted, Mustafa Kamal, senior MQM leader said there was a slight change in the position of the stage at the moot, however the venue would be the same. Another MQM leader, Saif Yar Khan giving the details of the arrangements told this scribe that vigilance, pindaal, welcome, transport, route, food and security committees had been formed to perform their duties on the event. He also told MQM had extended invitations to all political and religious parties besides members of other segments of the society to participate in 'MQMs Solidarity of Pakistan Moot. It is to be mentioned here, PML-Q and PPP have accepted the invitation of MQM so far, while PML-N and PTI had refused to attend the moot. Senator Pervaiz Rashid, when contacted said PML-N would not attend MQMs moot, as MQM was part of the government and PML-N was in opposition. PTI central secretary information, Umer Sarfaraz Cheema said partys CEC had decided not to take part in MQMs moot. He, while giving his reasons said MQM playing on both sides of the political divide and always assisted those rulers elected on fake degrees by getting fake votes. Moreover, the entire central leadership of MQM had arrived in the provincial metropolis to make the moot a success story. While, Dr Farooq Sattar, Haider Abbas Rizvi, Babar Ghauri, Raza Haroon, Mustafa Kamal, Waseem Akhtar, Iftikhar Randhawa, Wasay Jalil, Waseem Aftab, Saif Yar Khan, Khushbakt Shujaat, Dr Shaghir and Dr Shahad Shamsi were among the prominent MQM leaders taking part in the moot. It is merit mentioning, MQM held its first public moot in Punjab at Minar-e-Pakistan in 2006 and it launched its second show in 2010 outside the Alhamra Hall.
