'Q' claims support of 42 PPP MNAs

LAHORE - PML-Q Punjab Secretary-General and Opposition Leader in Punjab Assembly Ch Zaheeruddin has said that over 42 PPP disgruntled MNAs headed by Makhdoom Amin Fahim were in contact with the PML leadership to thwart attempt to impeach President Musharraf. According to press release issued here on Saturday, he said the members of coalition government had divergent views regarding impeach move against President Musharraf. He said the move would not succeed due to this very reason. Ch Zaheer was of the view that ruling parties of coalition government were making a deliberate attempt to raise this issue to divert people's attention from core issues facing the country. The government could not reinstate deposed judges even after four months nor could they control price-hike, he added. Zaheer believed that President Musharraf would face the move with courage with the backing of PML-Q, MQM and PML-F combined with the support of Makhdoom Amin Fahim. Qazi cuts short Sudan visit Jama'at-e-Islami Ameer Qazi Hussain Ahmad has cut short his visit of Sudan in view of political situation and is reaching back on Sunday (today), says a press release issued by JI Media Cell on Saturday. Qazi Hussain will reach Lahore on Sunday morning and is scheduled to lead a rally by the JI Lahore on the same day. The rally is being taken out to protest the rising price hike, increasing American intervention in tribal areas, and delay in restoration of sacked judges. According to the press release, during his stay Qazi Hussain Ahmad has held meeting with Sudanese president Omar Hasan Al Basheer and expressed solidarity with the Islamic movements in the country. CJ, LHC constitutes new benches for next week Chief Justice of Lahore High Court Syed Zahid Hussain has constituted new benches for the next week. According to a notification issued by the Additional Registrar's office on Saturday, Chief Justice constituted five division benches and eleven single benches to hear the urgent cases in the week commencing from Monday, August 11. It is pertinent to mention here that Chief Justice and the Judges of the LHC had decided to continue work during the summer vacations (from June to August this year) to dispose-of the pending cases and to decrease the backlog in the court.
