LAHORE - Jamaat-e-Islami chief Sirajul Haq blamed government for mishandling the protests in Faisalabad which resulted in killing of a PTI activist and caused widespread disruption.
Addressing an organisational convention organised by the JI Punjab chapter at Mansoora on Tuesday, he said that civilised societies did not tolerate the spilling of a single drop of blood of an innocent person. However, dozens of people became victims of violence and disturbance in this country but nobody bothered, he added. Siraj said that the country could not afford disruption and chaos at this point and if this situation continued it could lead to a tragic end.
He said the continuation of current crisis would not only ruin the country’s economy but also it would spread countrywide anarchy. He recalled that the lack of tolerance among the political parties and their differences had ended up in martial law in 1958, 1977 and 1999. He said the current political crisis had caused the killing of around twenty people and it was high time that the both sides honoured their commitment to resolve their situation through dialogue.
Siraj said that after Imran Khan had withdrawn from his demand for Prime Minister’s resignation and now the government should have immediately set up the Judicial Commission. He said that still it was time for the government to give up its false ego and be serious for talks and resume talks after giving a time frame for talks.
Sirajul Haq said that while the JI was talking of bringing together the two sides for talks but certain elements were creating obstructions in the process and these were the people who traded on dead bodies. He said, primarily, it was the government responsibility to normalize the situation and ensure peace and law and order.
However, the state of affairs showed that the government did not fully realize its responsibility on this score, he added.
He suggested to the Election Commission to appoint a representative for each political party for completing the election process in his own supervision.
JI Punjab chief Dr Syed Waseem Akhtar and deputy chief Amirul Azim, and General Secretary Nazeer Ahmed Janjua, also spoke on the occasion.
