Search operation nears end


LAHORE – Rescuers on Thursday morning pulled out another dead woman from the debris of a three-storey factory which caved in on Monday morning. The death toll now stands at 23.
The victim was identified as Khurshid Bibi, aged 65.
 “The rescue operation will take another five to seven hours to complete. We have sped up our efforts to sift through the wrecked site,” Farooq Ahmed, a spokesman for Rescue-1122 said on Thursday evening. The possibility of five to six more bodies cannot be ruled out, he said.
So far, the rescuers have recovered 21 dead bodies from the debris.
The rescuers are using heavy machinery including two cranes to remove the debris. Most the employees at Orient Lab (Pvt) Limited, owned by Shiekh Zubair and Sheikh Zaheer, were underpaid children and women.
