No merger, no alliance: PML-Q

LAHORE - PML-Q central leader Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi on Friday ruled out possibility of his party's merger or alliance with any other party, saying that PML will maintain its separate identity. Talking to reporters after chairing a party meeting at his residence, he said party's central executive committee (CEC) had decided that PML would maintain its separate identity, and hence any alliance or merger with other parties was out of question. He also criticised the performance of ruling alliance and termed it highly disappointing. Pervez said that just before holding of last general election one political party had called PML a 'Qatil League' while another one had accused it of siding with a dictator; and now, both these parties were seeking our support to remain in power. The PML-Q leader also grilled the ruling alliance for its alleged insensible dealing of foreign affairs especially with regard to relations with India. He said it was because of poor performance of the present government in all fields that talk of holding mid-term polls was circulating in political circles. He asked the government to evolve consensus before taking important decisions. The government, he added, had also failed to maintain an effective check on the prices of essential commodities, like flour, pulses, ghee, gas and petrol. To a question about repeal of 17th amendment, he said that PML-Q would oppose repeal of those clauses of the controversial amendment protecting the rights of women and minorities. He also condemned the Punjab government's, what he called, vindictive measures against the local governments and PML-Q workers.
