LAHORE - Representing Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif attended the funeral prayer of renowned social worker Abdul Sattar Edhi in Karachi yesterday.
On the occasion, the CM condoled with Faisal Edhi, the son of Abdul Sattar Edhi, and consoled him in his grief. He said Abdul Satter Edhi was the identity and an asset of Pakistan. “The deceased laid the foundation of public service and wrote a new chapter by serving the humanity throughout his life.”
Shehbaz Sharif prayed for Almighty’s help to Faisal Edhi in forwarding the mission his father had initiated to service the humanity.
Later on, the chief minister told the media that he always got inspiration from the personality of Abdul Sattar Edhi. “Edhi taught me how to help, stand with the poor, and lead a simple life,” he added.
Shehbaz Sharif said that he has learnt value of time and its best use from Abdul Sattar Edhi. “Abdul Sattar Edhi is hero of the nation and he got this award due to service to the humanity,” he further said.
“Abdul Sattar Edhi was known for sincerity, honesty, love for humanity and commitment. We talk of change but it does not come through speeches rather hard work is required for it and Abdul Sattar Edhi has done this task,” he added.
The CM said he considers Abdul Sattar Edhi as the real torchbearer of change in Pakistan. “There is a message for us in both his life and death.”
Shehbaz said that life of Abdul Sattar Edhi was an inspiration for others to be affectionate to humanity while his death is a proof of how people loved him. He said that Abdul Sattar Edhi was a bright face of Pakistan and he was positive identity of the country in this era of miseries.
He urged that we all have to make this face brighter and strengthen the identity. “Abdul Sattar Edhi is the name of spirit of service to humanity,” Shehbaz told the media while stressing the need to promote the same spirit in all walks of life including politics, government and administration.
Earlier on arrival at Karachi Airport, Provincial Minister for Local Government Jam Khan Shoro, Senator Nehal Hashmi, DG Protocol Shakeel Amjad, President Pakistan Muslim League-N Sindh Ismail Raho, Shah Muhammad Shah and other PML-N workers welcomed the chief minister.
Condolence: Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif yesterday expressed deep sense of sorrow and grief over the death of wife of Fakhir Malik, senior journalist. In a condolence message, the CM prayed for the departed soul and the bereaved family.
