DIG Operations 'warns criminals to surrender

OUR STAFF REPORTER LAHORE Failure to control the continuously looming crimes in the City, DIG Operations Ghulam Mahmood Dogar has warned the criminals to surrender otherwise they would be shot down on the spot, according to new crime-fighting strategy. He said policemen would break into the homes and dens of criminals and if they resisted they would be gunned down. Addressing his first media briefing accompanied by newly appointed SSP (Operations) Shaukat Abbas and SP Headquarters Romail Akram, the DIG said the graph of crime of all categories will be brought down within days. He said a sense of security would be created among the general public by giving them strong protection cover. Repeating the same rhetoric, Dogar said guilty SHOs would be snubbed, negligent policemen punished and criminal officers would be dismissed from their services. He said aggressive lady police would patrol across the City with a special task to tackle the mobile snatchers and robbers involved in street crimes. First Information Report will be lodged by following chain of command without delay, he said, adding the role of Sub-Divisional Police Officers (SDPOs) will be highlighted as each case would be discussed with the DSP concerned. According to Dogar, each SHO is bound to lodge FIR and listen to both the parties within 24 hours. Reporting rooms in each police division have been established where honest and intelligent officers trained by UNICEF will discharge their duties, he added. He said every application submitted at any reporting room would be addressed on priority basis. Dogar said mediamen and policemen were fighting against the terrorism, adding few things would be streamlined in the way of fighting crime. Addressing on the occasion, SSP Shaukat Abbas urged the mediamen to show both aspects of any incident and also communicate with high officials before filing the news items so that the issue should be balanced. According to him, Lahore would be made crime free city within days by following the mutual vision of DIG Operations Ghulam Mahmood Dogar and CCPO Lahore Ahmed Raza Tahir. The SSP said 12 gangs, with their 32 members, have been busted while 242 proclaimed offenders and 282 court absconders have also been apprehended during the last week. He also said dozens of cases against gamblers, anti-social elements and drug peddlers had been lodged. Meanwhile, Chief Traffic Officer SSP Syed Ahmed Mobin Zaidi said official documents could be retrieved within 10 days after the warden issued a challan from the relevant traffic sector. He said if anyone failed to pay fine then it would be doubled after passing 10 days. Each traffic sector will remain open from 8am to 5pm where punctual officers are discharging their duties, he added. Mobin also urged the citizens to abide by the traffic rules and regulation. Moreover, a farewell reception in honour of Additional IG Punjab Highway Patrol Hamayun Raza Shafi and Additional IG Operations, Rafique Hasan Butt was held at Police Headquarters, Punjab, here Thursday on the occasion of their transfer from Punjab Police to Federal Government. Inspector General of Police Punjab Javed Iqbal and other high ranking police officers participated in the reception where IGP paid high tribute to the services rendered by both the police officers while in Punjab Police. He said during the tenure of their posting, both officers enhanced the image of police department by performing their duties judicially, honestly and dedicatedly. Rafique Hasan and Hamayyun Raza Shafie said that throughout their service career they carried out their official duties with the spirit of serving the public and never going against their conscious. Souvenirs of Punjab Police were presented by the IGP to both the out going officers as a gesture of recognition of their services.
