Teachers out against LDA

LAHORE - Hundreds of Punjab University teachers took out a protest rally against LDA plans to acquire land of their housing society for constructing Metro Train terminal.
They also considered the options of classes and examinations boycott, blocking roads, holding protest in front of Punjab Assembly and writing letters to the Chinese Ambassador.
The federation of All Pakistan Universities Academic Staff Association President Naimatullah Laghari has expressed resolve to provide support and close all public sector universities if LDA or CM Punjab tried to snatch hard earned houses of PU teachers.
The protest rally was led by Academic Staff Association President Prof Dr Hassan Mobeen Aalam, Secretary Dr Mahboob Hussain, soon after its general body meeting. The rally started from Al Razi Hall and the participants marched towards campus bridge carrying banners and placard in support of their demands.
However, the rally remained peaceful and the protestors allowed smooth flow of traffic on the road while expressing their resolve if the LDA didn’t change its plan they would besieged the CM house on the Mall.
Addressing the participants, the ASA leaders said that their community was united and the government would never be allowed to snatch houses of teachers. They said it was strange that the LDA was eying the PU’s developed land while sparing the vacant land of political and influential personalities.
Earlier addressing the general body meeting, ASA President Dr Hassan Mobeen said that PU teachers stood united and even an inch of piece of land would not be given to LDA or any other authority.
ASA Secretary Dr Mahboob Hussain, while announcing the future course of action, said that a massive protest rally would be taken out from PU Old Campus to The Mall on Thursday. He said teachers do not want to come on roads and block traffic, however, if the government pushed them they would use all options to save their houses.
