Head constable resigns as SHO insults him

LAHORE A head-constable has tendered resignation after Johar Town SHO Inspector Attique Dogar allegedly used abusive language for him over a routine matter. John Khokhar, the night moharrar, received a phone call from the SHO at about 12:30 am on March 2, and the insiders claimed he hurled life threats to John after abusing him for not less than seven minutes. The victim, having a 31-year service record, tried his best to soothe the anger of his immediate boss, but to no avail, they added. During the telephonic conversation, the SHO allegedly threatened him of dire consequences saying he would lodge an FIR against the head constable besides making sufficient arrangements to put him behind the bars. He wrote down his complain against Inspector Attique Dogar on the same night and moved it to Saddar SP Zeeshan Asghar on the very day. The SP further marked a formal inquiry to DSP Ijaz Rasheed, they added. Reportedly, during the inquiry the victim police officer retreated his statements as maintained in his complain against Attique Dogar on which the DSP Ijaz Rasheed suspended him and directed him to avoid visiting the police station concerned. After getting disappointment, the victim police officer approached DIG (Operations) Rao Sardar Ali Khan on March 4 where he appealed for justice. The DIG, however, directed him to visit the office of a newly posted SSP (Operations) Lahore Faisal Rana. Ironically, police officers discharging their duties with the SSP Operations requesting anonymity claimed the top boss repeated the wordings of DSP Ijaz Rasheed with a fresh threat of dismissing him. Rana also threatened him to avoid sharing his story with media men otherwise he would have to suffer serious consequences, they alleged. After this tumultuous situation, the head constable has tendered his resignation and has urged the authorities concerned to provide him 'relief from the department. The victim police officer, father of five daughters and one son, is spending his life under utmost pressure and severe life threats nowadays. It may worth mentioning here, according to a handout (A) issued on December 11 from Central Police Office, during an open court of a former IG Tariq Saleem Dogar, one Manzoor Ahmad had alleged that Johar Towns then SHO Nazir Opel had insulted and misbehaved with him. The IG summoned the Saddar SP, Township DSP and Johar Town SHO to the open court immediately and ordered the Saddar SP to inquire into the matter on the spot. The inquiry officer in his report held the SHO guilty, upon which Tariq Saleem Dogar suspended the SHO. The DSP and SHO concerned, however, did not bother to pay heed to the repeated phone calls by this scribe in order to seek their version.
