SC seeks report about patient from Punjab govt

LAHORE - The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Friday directed the Punjab government to submit a report about the medical treatment of a youngster who was deprived of speaking power by a sharp kite thread.
A two-judge SC bench comprising Justice Tassaduq Jillani and Justice Saqib Nisar was hearing a suo moto incident case that took place in 2005.
Vocal cords of Fahim Shahzad, a resident of Lahore, was cut in 2005 by the sharp kite thread when he was on way to his home and after that, he became unable to speak.
A medical board constituted by the Punjab government had informed the apex court that the medical treatment of Fahim Shahzad was possible in England and Ireland as there were no proper facilities for the operation of vocal cords of any patient in Pakistanis hospitals.
The apex court had ordered the provincial government to take steps for his medical treatment in England. As the hearing resumed on Friday, Additional Advocate General Khadim Hussain Qaiser told the bench that he had no current information about the status of medical treatment of Fahim. He requested the court to allow more time for submission of report in this regard.
