LAHORE - Incumbent Lahore High Court Chief Justice Kh Imtiaz Ahmad will retire on March 29 on reaching age of superannuation.
Although, the tenure of Justice Khawaja Imtiaz Ahmad is less than a year as he took oath as Chief Justice on June 17, 2014, but no remarkable decision was seen on his part since then. His mainly focus, as Chief Justice, remained on the administrative side.
He is the chief justice who has given the LHC a ‘new case management system’ for fixation of cases before benches.
He constituted ‘Inquiry Tribunal comprising Justice Ali Baqar Najfi on the request of the Punjab government to probe into the Model Town incident, which held the Punjab government as responsible for killings of innocent people.
His overall service for the judiciary is about 23 years. He started his career as advocate in 1980. In 1992, he became additional district and sessions judge and served as such till 2000. In 2000, he was promoted as District and Sessions Judge and he remained as such till 2009. On September 14, 2009, he was appointed as additional judge of the LHC and made permanent on Sep 5, 2011.
On Monday, Judicial Commission of Pakistan recommended the name of senior puisne judge Manzoor Ahmad Malik as successor of Chief Justice Khawaja Imtiaz Ahmad.

Rescue 1122 DG put off
The Lahore High Court on Monday adjourned hearing of a petition challenging appointment of Dr Rizwan Naseer as Director General Rescue 1122 till March 19 for final arguments.
Shahid Ikram, petitioner, had submitted that the appointment of Dr Rizwan was not on merit. He said that Dr Rizwan was also not qualified to be appointed on this post.
He alleged that Dr Rizwan had been appointed as DG on political basis and his appointment was against the rules. He requested to set aside the appointment of Dr Rizwan as DG.
After hearing initial arguments, Justice Justice Mirza Viqas Rauf sought final arguments and adjourned the case until March 19.
The LHC also adjourned the hearing of Model Town incident case till March 11.
