LHC to hear petition against cancellation of Iqbal Day holiday

LAHORE: Lahore High Court (LHC) has admitted for hearing petition filed against cancellation of holiday by the government on Iqbal day.

The petitioner Farhad Ali Shah informed the court that interior ministry has cancelled the public holiday in connection with birth anniversary of national poet Allama Iqbal through a notification. Government cancelled the holiday without assigning any reason. This has driven the entire nation into mental disturbance. The nations which forget their forefathers never go ahead on the path of development. Observing Iqbal day with enthusiasm is right of every one. The government cannot suppress this right through a notification.

He requested the court to set aside the notification on cancellation of public holiday on Iqbal day and issue orders for restoration of this public holiday. Orders are also issued for removing the objections raised by registrar office on the petition.

The court while removing the registrar office objections admitted the petition for preliminary hearing.

The court directed the petitioner to attach government notification with his petition.
