54 gangs smashed in Sept

LAHORE - Lahore police Thursday said that they smashed 54 gangs of criminals by arresting their 164 members during the month of September as the crackdown against most wanted criminal is underway across the provincial metropolis. Police also arrested 1314 proclaimed offenders and court absconders during the
same period.
According to a police spokesperson, Lahore DIG (Operations) Dr Haider Ashraf directed police officers to utilize their full energies to curb the crimes in the city and to arrest the criminals involved in heinous crimes.
All the divisional SPs widened the clampdown on the criminals and showed excellent results during the month of September 2014 by arresting 164 criminals of 54 gangs who were involved in different heinous crimes. As many as 547 POs and 767 CAs of A and B categories were also arrested.
Operations police also registered 404 cases registered against 405 accused for keeping illegal weapons and recovered 14-rifles, 20-guns, 347-revolvers and pistols, three daggers and 1993 bullets from their possession.
During action against drug dealers, police registered 624 cases after arresting 639 culprits in the month of September. Police also seized 23-kg heroine, 162-kgChars, 8-kg opium and 8577 bottles of liquor recovered from their possession. Similarly, at least 103 cases were registered against gamblers and 492 accused were arrested.
