LAHORE - Punjab Governor Ch Sarwar has said the waterborne diseases are enormously increasing burden on state-run hospitals which is a matter of serious concern.
Addressing the inaugural session of Silver Jubilee Conference Familycon arranged by Pakistan Academy of Family Physicians at a local hotel on Saturday, the governor highlighted state of affairs regarding provision of clean drinking water in the province, saying that over 1,000 children were visiting the Children’s Hospital alone on daily basis with the waterborne diseases.
Ambassador of Denmark Jesper Moller Sorensen, Advisor to Punjab Chief Minister on Health Kh Salman Rafiq, Director General Health Dr Zahid Perzaiz, health professionals, PAFP president Dr Tariq Mian and other office bearers were also present.
Sarwar said that the Punjab government had launched a project at a cost Rs12 billion for the provision of potable water but more such schemes were required for the safety of coming generation and for reducing burden on public sector hospitals. He stressed the need of strengthening primary healthcare system across the province to reduce burden on the teaching hospitals.
He said that the role of family physicians would be critical to materialise the dream of strengthening the healthcare delivery system. He said that the government should ensure sale of drugs by the medical stores on prescription of doctors only to curb the menace of self medication and quackery.
He counseled the government to resolve all problems in a way like it did to defeat dengue. He stressed the need of declaring educational emergency as 23 million children were not going to schools.

Punjab Governor Ch Sarwar has said the whole nation stands one on rooting out terrorism from the country.
Terming the Peshawar school tragedy as worst in the history of Pakistan, the governor said that the tragedy brought the entire nation to a single platform with a clear goal to eliminate enemies of the state.
“An office or authority is, in fact, a test for a person that how honestly and diligently he discharges his responsibility.
And only those find their name in the heart of the people who use this power in the interest of people and country,” the governor shared his view during a function held in the honour of former governors of Punjab and their family members on Saturday.
