LHC moved for early hearing of 22-year-old writ against Nawaz

LAHORE Through an application the Lahore High Court has been prayed for giving early hearing to a 22-year old petition against the former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. The petition was filed by Allay Imran through Barrister Mohummad Iqbal Jafree to seek disqualification of Nawaz Sharif to contest election for the parliamentary seat of the country. The instant is an amended petition wherein the petitioner has prayed for hearing of the main petition to also consider the fresh facts, the petitioner has brought against Nawaz Sharif in the context of economic strains facing the country and the urgency of bringing the money home which was siphoned off to the foreign countries allegedly looting the national exchequer. The petitioner has alleged that the respondent abusing the power of the office at the relevant time and later to practice corruption on the national money, transferred about $two billion to the banks abroad through his agents. He has also alleged disloyalty on Sharif on the ground that two of his sons have sought foreign nationality and in this view and others, he does not fit in the standard set for becoming member of the parliament in terms of Articles 62 and 63 of the Constitution. The petitioner has prayed to the court to fix the petition to early hearing so that the alleged money could also be brought back and the dwindling economy could be given a breather. Meanwhile, Justice Nasir Saeed Sheikh of the Lahore High Court on Thursday sent to the Chief Justice to seek larger bench hearing of the petition which has been filed against President Asif Ali Zardari to seek his disqualification. The Single Bench desired the hearing of the petition by a larger bench in view of the importance and effect of the issue raised there through. The petition has been filed though advocate AK Dogar for advocate Ghazi Ilmuddin inter alia contending that Asif Ali Zardari is ineligible to hold the highest office of the state. The petitioner alleged the person of Asif Ali Zardari is tainted with acts of corruption since the time of first stint of Benazir Bhutto and by dint of that he was dubbed with the title of 'Mr 10-per cent worldwide. The petitioner has alleged favouritism on the respondent while holding him responsible for emptying the national kitty to the effect of bringing large scale poverty in the country and giving it the lowest economic and political status in the world. The petitioner says Mr Zardari lacks qualification to become a member of the Assembly which stood at par for the qualification to contest election for the presidential office. He argues that Mr Zardari carried inherent disqualification to contest for the highest state office of the country as such he may be declared ineligible to continue as president of the country. Previously the court had called for the reply from the Federal Government to the petition, which was awaited. Life term: Additional District and Sessions Judge Muhammad Tahir Khan Niazi on Thursday announced life imprisonment for one accused and acquitted two others giving them the benefit of doubt in a kidnap-cum-rape case. Convict Talib Hussain Rizvi and two other accused namely Ghulam Hussain and Shakir Hussain had allegedly kidnapped a female (S) and later Talib had been raping the female at gunpoint. South Cantt police on tip-off recovered the female and registered case against accused party. Victim woman recorded her statement before the magistrate concerned that convict had kidnapped her fraudulently and had been raping her for months. On Thursday, the judge after hearing arguments of lawyers announced punishment for Talib and acquitted two others giving them the benefit of doubt. Case against SHO: Additional District and Sessions Judge Marukh Aziz Tarrer on Thursday directed the CCPO to register a case against SHO chuhng police for not complying with court orders. A resident of Koh-e-Noor Housing Scheme Hina Rehman had filed a petition in the court that she had filed a petition in the session court that land mafia wanted to occupy her property and had been torturing her family as well. She said while setting aside court orders, police concerned reluctant to take action against the above said land grabbers. On which the judge ordered the CCPO to register case against the SHO and submit report in court on next hearing.
