Rickshaw driver killed in dacoity

LAHORE - A 40-year-old rickshaw driver, father of six, was shot dead over resistance by two unidentified dacoits during dacoity attempt at Rustam Park in Gulshan Ravi police area on Wednesday. The deceased identified as Ejaz Khan was carrying the prize bonds worth over Rs1.1 millions, however the dacoits snatched prize bonds and managed to flee from the crime scene. Police investigators said the citizen identified as Moh-ammad Latif, a resident of Rustam Park, was on his way back from the State Bank when two armed bike riders intercepted him near Umar Market near Rustam Park and snatched a bag containing prize bonds from him. Latif offered resistance, upon which the dacoits fired a shot in his legs. Meanwhile, the rickshaw driver Ejaz Khan reached the spot. He approached the dacoits and attempted to overpower one of them. As a result, the other dacoits opened fire at him and escaped from the site with the prize bonds, a police officer said. Later, the injured persons were rushed to a local hospital where rickshaw driver Ejaz Khan was pronounced dead while the condition of the old man was reported to be stable till filing of this report.
