ICC looks for 2013 CT host as board meeting concludes

LAHORE The Pakistan Cricket Board and the USA Cricket Association have made assurances to reach an agreement to play a long term series in the USA. According to a press release of the board, the PCB and USACA are working out on ways to organise matches in the US. PCB Chairman Ijaz Butt returned from Dubai after attending the ICC meeting and informed of several developments happened on sidelines of the ICC meeting. A PCB official said that David Morgan, President ICC announced a medal for Chairman PCB, Ijaz Butt for the services rendered by him to ICC and the game of cricket. Chairman PCB had a meeting with Chairman New Zealand Cricket Mr. Alan Isaac on the sidelines of the ICC meeting. Mr. Isaac was all praise for Pakistan U-19 team during the ICC U-19 World Cup held in New Zealand and termed the Pakistani team as the best behaved team of the tournament, he added. He further said that the chairman and COO PCB Wasim Bari held a meeting with USA Cricket (USACA) officials to discuss organizing match series in USA in 2010. The matches will feature the defending ICC World T20 champions. The USA Cricket delegation was led by CEO Donald Lockerbie. Butt stated: Pakistan playing as a full member in the USA is in line with the ICC policy to grow the sport in countries such as the United States. While the two boards are still finalizing the dates and the types of match competitions- assurances were made by both parties that a long term agreement to play in the USA will begin with a match series later in 2010, the official added. However, reports coming from Dubai stated that the ICC Board met for the first time at the new ICC Headquarters in Dubai on February 10 and 11. The results of that meeting include: Promotion and context of international cricket The ICC Board has agreed to conduct urgent product research and analysis as a part of the process which is looking at providing greater context to Test, ODI and Twenty20 International cricket outside the major ICC events. This research will assist the working party, established by the ICC Chief Executives Committee and endorsed by the Board, which comprises David Collier (England and Wales Cricket Board), Nishantha Ranatunga (Sri Lanka Cricket), N Srinivasan (Board of Control for Cricket in India) and James Sutherland (Cricket Australia) with David Richardson (ICC General Manager - Cricket). Integral to the work will be a competitive analysis of other sports and entertainment products as well as further consumer research into product development - in particular day/night Test cricket. Host interest sought for ICC Champions Trophy 2013 ICC will invite expressions of interest in hosting the ICC Champions Trophy, scheduled for May/June 2013. The Board reiterated that this must be a compact competition. The ICC Executive will now approach Members to establish expressions of interest with the desire to complete the process by June 2010. ICC Cricket Committee The Board has reappointed Ian Bishop and Mark Taylor to the ICC Cricket Committee as media representatives and also ratified the reappointment of Kumar Sangakkara and Tim May as current player representatives and Indias Gary Kirsten as the representative of national coaches following the recent resignation of Mickey Arthur. Irelands expression of intent to apply for Full or Enhanced Membership of the ICC Following Cricket Irelands expression of intent to apply for Full or Enhanced Membership of the ICC, the Board has approved a three-step process recommended by the Governance Review Committee which begins with a review of categories of Membership. When that work has been completed and consideration has been given to the process for dealing with applications, Cricket Irelands application for Full or Enhanced Membership of the ICC will be formally considered. Decision Review System ICC received a report from David Richardson, ICC General Manager - Cricket, on the umpire decision review system in which he stated the system had led to a significant increase in the number of correct decisions. In 13 Test matches the percentage of correct decisions has risen from 91.3 per cent to 97.44 per cent. The Board supported a desire for work to continue to build on the encouraging results from the first 13 matches and will discuss further technological improvements with broadcasters in March to improve and refine the DRS further. Security Task Force Chairman of the ICC Anti-Corruption and Security Unit Lord Condon presented the seven recommendations of the ICC Security Task Force set-up after the Lahore attack in March 2009. These recommendations, including the requirement of every Full Member to appoint a designated full-time security manager and also the establishment of minimum standards and best practice guidelines for safety and security, were unanimously accepted by the Board. It was welcomed that all Full Members had already either appointed or were in the process of appointing a full-time security manager and that all the other recommendations were either already in place or in the process of being implemented. Meanwhile, the ICC Board also received reports from the Pakistan Task Force and thanked other full members who had agreed to host matches for Pakistan. ICC events After the success of the ICC World Twenty20 in England and the ICC Champions Trophy in South Africa in 2009, the Board was encouraged to receive positive progress reports on the ICC World Twenty20 2010 to be held in the West Indies from April 30 to May 16 and the success of the ongoing ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier in the United Arab Emirates. The Board also received positive reports on the progress and planning for ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 - the ICC flagship event. ICC Headquarters The Board considered the option of re-locating to Lords but felt it important to continue its comprehensive and ongoing due diligence before reaching any decisions. Sydney stadium granted international status Following a recommendation from the ICC Chief Executives Committee, the ICC Board has approved the ANZ Stadium in Sydney as an international venue.
