Blind murder mystery solved

LAHORE: The Crime Investigation Agency (CIA), an anti-organized crime wing of the Lahore police, on Tuesday claimed to have solved the blind murder mystery of the widow of film director Mumtaz Khan, who was murdered in cold-blood last year.  A police spokesman said that the CIA (Iqbal Town) police arrested two accused involved in the murder of Mohnia Mumtaz, the widow of film director Mumtaz Khan.  According to officials, Lahore Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Chaudhry Shafiq Ahmed took serious notice of the pending blind murder cases and directed SP CIA Muhammad Omer Virk to unearth the culprits involved in the murder of widow of a film director in Iqbal Town area.  The CIA police chief constituted a special team headed by DSP CIA (Iqbal Town) Riaz Shah which launched the probe afresh after collecting particulars and available evidences in connection with the killing. During the course of investigations, it was revealed that Mohnia Mumtaz had set up a marriage bureau in Moon Market and was also running a beauty parlor and boutique. On November 8, her son had informed the police that his mother who had gone to her office in the morning but did not return. During the process of investigation, it was disclosed that a person namely Amanat Ali was a frequent visitor to Mohnia’s office.
In the light of the information and evidences, Amanat Ali was called for interrogation but he got pre-arrest bail which further raised suspicions. After cancellation of his bail, the accused was interrogated who confessed to police the killing of Mohnia Mumtaz over property. He told the investigators that he had developed relations with Mohnia Mumtaz who wanted to marry with him but he was more interested in her daughter.
He also confessed that he had abducted Mohnia and tried to force her to transfer her property besides arranging his marriage with her daughter but she refused to do so.
Upon this he got infuriated and he murdered Mohnia with the help of Muhammad Ali and dumped her dead body somewhere. During further interrogation, the accused also confessed to the murder of a property dealer Barkat Ali, a resident of Chunian over a dispute of Rs 2.5 million.
He also had dumped his body in front of a government office. Two persons Aslam and Altaf were also involved in the crime and the police are conducting raids for their arrest. DIG Investigation Zulfiqar Hameed has announced cash prizes and commendatory certificates for the police team.
