Guard killed by own fire


LAHORE – A 40-year-old security guard was killed shortly after his gun mistakenly went off in Harbanspura Police Precincts late on Wednesday. The deceased was identified as M Afzal. According to police claim, the deceased was a security guard at a home of an advocate namely M Saeed. Police said although the circumstances are quite different of the crime scene but the family members stated to police investigators that the deceased was cleaning his gun when it went off. He said investigators are probing into the matter whereas the body has been moved to the City morgue for autopsy.
Dacoity bid foiled:  Punjab Highway Patrol claimed to have foiled an attempt of a dacoity after an encounter and recovered stolen timbers amounted to Rs150, 000.
According to the detail, PHP Pakpattan team learned that some unknown accused were looting vehicles near Adda Haripur. PHP team reached the spot immediately. On seeing PHP team, the dacoits opened firing at police, which retaliated in the same way. However, the accused managed to escape from the spot. PHP Bahawalnagar stopped a suspicious truck (ST/7910) near 214/9-R and recovered stolen govt wood valuing Rs 150, 000 from the possession of two accused namely Subhan Ali and Muhammad Ilyas of Fort Abbas.
