LHC summons Ramazan loadshedding schedule

LAHORE - Lahore High Court Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial on Thursday summoned schedule of electricity load shedding during month of Ramzan.
The CJ issued this order on a petition challenging prolonged electricity loadshedding. Earlier the petitioner counsel contended that the respondents failed to give any relief to the public during the month of Ramazan. In a reply the counsel law officer contended that government has assured to avoid load shedding at the Sahar and Iftar timings. He said that the government also taking some concrete steps to minimize the loadshedding. The court after hearing the law officer adjourned the matter for a week.
Judicial Activism Panel Chairman Advocate Azhar Siddique had filed the petition saying that Punjab was being subjected to discrimination in loadshedding and given less share of electricity.
He submitted that the current level of load shedding exceeds 16 hours per day in the cities and was even larger in the rural areas.
LDA fire: The Lahore High Court on Thursday disposed a petition against fire at LDA plaza after the Punjab government undertook that the responsible officials would be brought to justice.
When proceedings resumed on the petition seeking directions for sufficient arrangements to avoid such incidents in future, an LDA counsel and government law office told the court that an inquiry was being held in the matter and the responsible will be brought to justice soon.
After recording the statement, the court disposed the petition and observed that government should bring all the responsible to justice.
The court also allowed Dr Naseer to work as Chairman fire safety commission and directed him to enforce building laws including emergency exists in the high-rise buildings in particular.
The petition was moved by Advocate Noshab Khan who submitted that the rescuers of the Punjab emergency service failed to rescue the people trapped in the LDA plaza when fire erupted there. He said the rescue 1122 were not equipped with basic gadgets used in such situations.
