Bangladeshi students visit Punjab University


LAHORE – A twenty-member delegation of students of Bangladeshi universities visited Punjab University on Monday and met with Acting Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Liaqat Ali and senior faculty members at the Centre for Undergraduate Studies.
The delegation was led by Prof Dr Abul Khair of Botany Department of Jahangirnagar University, while students of social science department of different universities were included in the delegation.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Liaqat briefed the delegation about Punjab University’s history and academic developments. Dr Khair said that the people of Pakistan were hospitable. “If an incident occurred in Pakistan, its pain was also felt in Bangladesh.”
Dr Khair stressed that these types of visits could bring the two countries closer. He also thanked the Government of Pakistan, Higher Education Commission (HEC) and Punjab University for facilitating the visit. Later, the delegation visited different departments of the Punjab University.
PU IAGS ACCREDITATION: The academic programmes of the Institute of Agricultural Sciences (IAGS) have been accredited provisionally in ‘X’ category of the National Agriculture Education Accreditation Council-HEC on the recommendation of the Accreditation Inspection Committee. Punjab University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran has congratulated IAGS Director Prof Dr Muhammad Saleem Haider on earning fame for the university.
RESEARCH PAPER PUBLISHED: A research paper titled ‘New Records of Pezizales from Pakistan’, authored by a PhD student of the Punjab University’s Department of Botany, Tayiba Ashraf, has been published in one of the top-ranking journals of the United States, ‘Mycotaxon’. Tayiba’s illustrations and findings have been selected out of the top 10 finalists and appeared on the front cover of the journal. Punjab University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran has congratulated Department of Botany Associate Prof Dr Abdul Nasir Khalid, who is also the co-author of the research paper.
