LAHORE  - Lahore High Court on Wednesday summoned the secretary school education to appear in person on a petition challenging summer camps being held in all schools of Punjab.
 Justice Ali Baqar Najfi of the Lahore High Court summoned secretary school education on Thursday (today) while hearing a petition filed by four students seeking directions for school education department to stop summer camps in Punjab.
The petitioner told the court that secretary school education issued a notification on May 30, 2012 regarding summer vacations in Punjab from June 01, 2012 to August 19, 2012 instead of June 01, 2012 to August 14, 2012. 
They said simultaneously another notification was issued on May 30, 2012 wherein order for summer camps for terminal classes including 5th, 8th, 9th and 10th was given. The secretary school directed not to hold summer camps for classes of nursery to class-4 and summer camps schedule will be observed from 7 AM to 10:30 am.

They further said that the weather was extremely hot and due to load shedding, students were not attending classes and numerous complaints had been received from the parents, wherein they stated that due to extreme hot weather it was not possible for this students/children to attend the classes and they demanded that the summer camps would be closed as soon as possible.

The petitioners said that students could not attend classes because they were apprehending sunstroke and other complications due to loadshedding. Also shortage of drinking water and other allied facilities added in the problems.
It was also told that Zeeshan son of Munir Ahmed of 9th Class a student of Government Guronank High School District Nankana Sahib expired due to attack of sunstroke.
In addition teachers were also facing problems and had no conveyance allowance for summer camps, they said. The petitioners requested the court to direct the authorities concerned to stop summer camps and set aside the notification issued in this regard.
