LAHORE – Unidentified gunmen shot at and wounded a prayer leader at a mosque, in what appeared to be a sectarian assault, in the Baghbanpura area on early Monday, police sources said.
The religious leader, later identified as Qari Muhammad Akram, 50, was in a washroom in Jamia Hanfia in the Tajpura area at Bund Road when gunmen appeared there and opened straight fire at him.
The father of six children, Qari Akram, sustained multiple bullet injuries while the attackers managed to escape. The injured was rushed to a local hospital, where his condition was reported to critical condition till filling of report.
Police sources suspected sectarian motives behind the attack.
