Punjab Assembly up against Altaf

LAHORE - The Punjab Assembly on Tuesday unanimously adopted a resolution condemning the statement recently made by MQM chief Altaf Hussain asking the Army to take control of the government and launch action against the terrorists in FATA.
Leader of the Opposition, Mian Mahmood Rashid moved the resolution in the House expressing annoyance over the statement, which, he said, was against democracy.
Earlier, the Opposition leader sought permission of the House to move the resolution out of term. There was no opposition from any side and the Speaker allowed the mover to read out the resolution after suspending the relevant rules of Assembly business.  The resolution said that the Punjab Assembly condemned the anti-democracy statement by the MQM chief and would continue to do so in future as well. It also expressed its annoyance over the statement.
Meanwhile, the House also passed four other resolutions of public interest. One of the resolutions recommended ban on import and sale of toys having resemblance with pistol, Kalashnikov and other weapons. The mover, Sheikh Ejaz pleaded that this was meant to end aggression in the children.
A resolution moved by Dr Nausheen Hamid of PTI asked the government to spare a separate room for lady accused in all police stations forthwith and take steps for setting up of lady police stations in all districts.  Interestingly, the Treasury members also supported this resolution despite the fact that Law Minister had opposed it on the ground that such a system was already in place.
A resolution by Azma Zahid Bokhari recommend that basic human rights as mentioned in the Constitution should made part of the educational curriculum.
The House also approved a resolution moved by Nighat Nasir Sheikh of PML-N seeking establishment of book streets in cities on the pattern of food streets.
The Speaker decided to keep another resolution pending for decision which made it binding on the developers of housing schemes to attach an NOC from the concerned government authority alongwith their advertisements to be published in the media.
Ahmad Shah Khhagga had submitted this resolution to save the citizens from any possible fraud at the hands of private developers.
