Non-Muslims also wear veil

LAHORE - Hijab is not a symbol of terrorism and the women of other faiths also wear the headscarf in the US, said Attia Nasir, Regional Coordinating Officer in the Bureau of International Information Programs at the US Department of State at a seminar at Lahore College for Women University (LCWU).
Seminar on “Communication and Gender” was organised by the International Resource Centre at LCWU’s Directorate of Faculty Development and Internationalism, in collaboration with US Consulate. Attia was accompanied by Tahir Habib, Cultural Affairs Specialist and Igna Litvinsky, Cultural Affaris Officer.
Students from various departments participated enthusiastically in the seminar. The speaker shared her personal and professional experiences of wearing Hijab in the US and how she was working for bridging the divide between Islam and other religions.
She emphasised the importance of women being in mainstream professions, sport and other fields and maintaining a balanced harmony between their religious and cultural beliefs. She encouraged the women to focus on developing their own inner qualities as preached by Islam and not be judgmental of any other group of people because of their beliefs or attire.
