LAHORE - Another writ petition has been moved in the Lahore High Court demanding to annul Local Government Act, 2013 by declaring it as violation of Constitution of Pakistan.
Many petitions are already pending before Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial wherein some sections of the act especially Local Bodies elections in Punjab on non-party basis have been challenged. In the fresh writ petition, Advocate Rizwan Gill said that the Punjab government had ignored Article 62 and 63 of the Constitution as both articles had not been included in the Local Government Act, 2013.
By inclusion of these two articles, the countrymen could elect honest leaders in Local Bodies elections as their representatives, the lawyer added.
He pointed out that non-inclusion of Article 62 and 63 of the Constitution would be harmful for country and democracy. He requested the court to take notice of the matter and annul those sections of the Local Government Act that are in violation of the Constitution.
Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial would hear the fresh petition alongwith earlier ones.
The date of hearing for all the cases would be fixed by the registrar office.
