LAHORE - A contempt petition has been filed in the Lahore High Court against former Law minister Rana Sanaullah for giving statement against the Inquiry Tribunal probing into Model Town incident.
Advocate Azhar Siddique on Thursday filed the petition in the court, submitting that the tribunal, headed by Justice Ali Baqar Najfi, completed its inquiry into the incident and handed it over to Punjab government. “The statement of Rana Sanaullah that a reference would be filed in Supreme Judicial Council against Justice Najfi was against Article 204 of the Constitution,” he stated. Siddique pleaded to the court for initiating contempt of court proceedings against Rana Sanaullah over his statement.
Meanwhile, Watan Party filed a petition in Supreme Court Lahore Registry against Azadi and Iqlab sit-ins in Islamabad. The petitioner termed the marches unlawful and unconstitutional; adding that serious damage to the country’s economy was being caused by them. He requested the court to declare both the marches as illegal and unconstitutional in the larger interest of the country.
In another move, Muhammad Kamran from Faisalabad filed a civil miscellaneous in LHC seeking directions to shift both the marches to Sports Complex Islamabad. He submitted that the government officials, judges and other citizens could not go to their offices due to blockage of roads by the protestors. He requested the court to direct the government to take action against them if they continued their sit-ins at Constitutional Avenue in Islamabad.
“Holding protest is the constitutional right of every citizen but it should be under the constitutional limits,” he stated.
